My top five offbeat Bollywood movies

Bollywood means drama, action and Yashraj type romance pack movies and it’s a style ‘Bollywood style’ but now days Bollywood is changing its trend, recently we have witnessed a phase where Hindi cinema doesn’t comprise of mainstream Bollywood movies. There are a number of directors and actors who are experimenting and coming up with more meaningful cinema. Here I am listing my favorite off beat Bollywood movies which made me think, which touched heart with a sense and off course made a huge impact on changing cinema and its viewers.

English Vinglish: Directed by Gauri Shinde, story revolves around self-esteem of an Indian housewife. She doesn’t know English language and often taunted by her family and fellows, first she ignored it, then tolerated it and finally she decided to fight for her virtue. A true masterpiece I would say.

Paa: A very rare father son – son father story directed by R Balakrishnan, a storyline on which hardly any movies there in Indian Cinema, illustrating a real medical condition that result in accelerated ageing called ‘Progeria’. Very well portrayed by Indian mega star Amitabh Bachchan.

Swades: Offbeat you would say but I think Yes, directed by Ashutosh Gowariker. Swades is inspired by story of Aravinda Pillalamarri and Ravi Kuchimanchi, the NRI couple who returned to India and developed the pedal power generator to light remote, off the grid village schools. It defines how social responsibility and urge to work for our country can overcome personal luxurious life.

Taare Zameen Par: This time Aamir Khan produced and directed along with Amole Gupte, a film which left every citizen thinking and struck a chord as in what manner the foundation development of child should be done. “Every child is special” the theme of movie and characterize a kid who is dyslexic and less performing, how he overcame his disability is the focus of movie.

Udaan: Story of teenager who want to become a writer and go along side the path which he explore by self, he want to do something different from world, doing engineering and get well settled. Dream, desire to fly, urge to do something different despite economical balance; this film has something which gave us great moments of cinema, done is shades which leave the camera lens far behind to romance the very core of middle class life. Directed by Vikramditya Motwane, must watch!!

Well the list does not end here, there are plenty of other films too which are different from leak of Bollywood such as The Lunchbox, Dasvidaaniya, DevD, Iqbaal, Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara etc.
